Islamabad United History

Islamabad United are the inaugural champions of Pakistan Super League. They represent the capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad. The team is owned by Amna Naqvi and Ali Naqvi.

They defeated Quetta Gladiators in the very first season of PSL. They have won the title twice. Islamabad United beat Peshawar Zalmi in the 3rd season of PSL to claim most number of titles so far in Pakistan Super League.

The team coach of Islamabad United is well renowned Australian player Dean Jones. Rumman Raees is the vice captain of this team.

Misbah Ul Haq used to captain this side for last 3 seasons.

But he has been traded now and will play from the sixth team of Pakistan Super League.

The team director is Waqar Younis and Saeed Ajmal is balling coach for Islamabad United.

Luke Ronchi, who is most likely to get the captain’s cap for the fourth season of PSL has been the highest run scorer for Islamabad United.

And the highest wicket taker has been Muhammad Sami. Muhammad Sami is one of the oldest pacers in world cricket.

But he is quicker and smarter then most of the young players in the circuit. In the last season Fahim Ashraf was the highest wicket taker of IU.

He has been a part of Pakistan’s T20 and ODI side as well.

Islamabad United season 1 History

In their first season, Islamabad United were off color at start. They looked pretty ordinary in group stages. They won four of their eight matches in group stage.

They managed to sneak through to play-offs.

Islamabad United faced Karachi Kings in their first Eliminator.

Muhammad Sami outshined everyone in that match he took 5 wickets for 8 runs in that match and restricted Karachi Kings to just 110 runs.

Brad Haddin and Dwyane Smith scored fifties and chased the easy target in 15th over. Now the real challenge began. Karachi Kings was a weaker team.

But the next match was against a heavier team. Peshawar Zalmi, who were playing great. Sharjeel Khan scored first century of PSL in that match.

He made 117 of just 62 balls. With the help of remarkable century by Sharjeel, Islamabad managed to get 176 runs. Peshawar Zalmi felt too short of this target.

They only managed to score 126 runs and were bowled out. Imran Khalid took 4 wickets for just 20 runs.

After that comfortable win Islamabad United got the confidence and momentum for the finals.

Quetta Gladiators were already in Finals. So, this match was supposed to be a huge game.

Out of nowhere a team that everyone had undermined was in Finals.

In the final Match United opted to bowling first after winning the toss.

The decision was criticized in the balling span of IU, as Quetta Gladiators managed to post a good total of 174 on board.

Islamabad United had to chase a huge total in Finals. Dwyane Smith and Brad Haddin who were in good form showed their class in the big game and made 73 and 61 respectively.

Islamabad won the game with eight balls remaining. Thus, Islamabad United lifted the very first trophy of Pakistan Super League.

Islamabad United Season 2 Performance

In the second season of PSL, Islamabad United added Shadab Khan and Steven Finn in their squad. Islamabad United won their first match against Peshawar Zalmi.

They continued their wining streak from last season. Though they lost to Lahore Qalandars in the very next match. Highlight of that match was Misbah Ul Haq’s 61 of 36 balls.

He hit 5 sixes in that innings. Islamabad rebuilt their campaign after winning their next game against Quetta Gladiators. Sam Billings was the top scorer for that game.

He scored 78 runs in that match. Islamabad United lost their next match to Karachi Kings who were at that time on bottom of the table.

That match was affected by rain and Karachi won it by Duck-worth Lewis Method.

The next match was won by Islamabad united. It was a nail-biting finish. Islamabad won it on the last delivery. The next match was also a thrilling one.

Islamabad United posted a respectable total of 145 on board, which at a time seemed very difficult. They reached to 145 after Shadab’s 42 of just 24 balls.

It proved to be a tense game and Lahore Qalandars won the game by just 1 wicket. But the game that can be given the iconic status for PSL was the next game Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators.

Islamabad United posted a total of 166 runs. Quetta Gladiators seemed great till 16th over. They made 148 for the loss of one wicket.

Match was in their hands. But then after great comeback from Islamabad United team they lost the match by just 1 run. With this victory Islamabad United qualified to play-offs.

Just like the last season Islamabad United played Karachi Kings in first eliminator. They restricted Karachi Kings to just 126 runs.

It was expected to be an easy chase. But Islamabad United collapsed badly while chasing. They were all out on 82 and thus eliminated.

3rd Season Performance Of Islamabad United

In the third season of PSL, Islamabad United started with a lost to Peshawar Zalmi. They couldn’t chase a good total of 176 and fell short 34 runs.

Thought they got back on track after winning from Multan Sultans in their next encounter. They again lost from Quetta Gladiators and could not defend their total of 135 runs.

Islamabad United managed to win a thrilling game against Lahore Qalandars. Lahore Qalandars leveled the small total posted by Islamabad United of 121 runs.

The match result was decided after a super over. Andre Russel won the match with a huge six. In the next match, IU ended the unbeaten run of Karachi Kings by beating them by 8 wickets in the chase of 154 runs.

Luke Ronchi’s aggressive innings of 71 runs of 37 balls was the cornerstone of the victory. This meant that the team had qualified for the final. Luke Ronchi was the hitman for this team.

He paved the way to finals for Islamabad United. Final was against Peshawar Zalmi. Peshawar posted a total of 148 on the score board that was easily chased by Islamabad United.

Luke Ronchi again played a wonderful knock. Islamabad united have won the title twice.

Islamabad United season 4 Prediction

For the fourth season of PSL, Islamabad United has left Misbah Ul Haq, the captain who made them win the tournament twice of the three times they played.

They haven’t announced a captain yet but Ian Bell or Luke Ronchi are heavy contenders for this job. We wish Islamabad United very best for this season of PSL.
